Comanche takes Sydney Hobart line honours by a whisker

Master Lock Comanche has won line honours in the 2025 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race after a dramatic finish in light airs off Tasmania. Skippered by Matt Allen with James Mayo, the 100-footer crossed the Hobart finish line at 18:03:36 local time on 28 December, completing the 628-nautical-mile course in 2 days, 5 hours, 3 minutes and 36 seconds. The 80th edition of the race started on Boxing Day in strong headwinds, with 2–3 metre seas and punishing conditions across Bass Strait. Fourteen boats retired as the fleet battled heavy weather, while six 100-foot Maxis fought for line honours.Comanche built a lead on the second day, but near the finish fading winds compressed the fleet and erased a margin of more than seven nautical miles. With LawConnect, SHK Scallywag 100 and Lucky closing fast, the race was decided in the final miles.Staying close to shore, Comanche was first to find new breeze, regaining momentum and holding on to win by a narrow margin. LawConnect finished second, 47 minutes behind, with SHK Scallywag third.
